CENTRAL AMERICA

Central AmericaCentral America is the central region of the Americas located just below Mexico consisting of seven countries: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama.

Although there is no end to this region's attractions, most travelers make a beeline straight to the best Central America beaches because of the warm waters, flourishing marine life, and soft sands spanning the Caribbean and Pacific coastlines.

BELIZE

Belize is a relatively small country nestled in between México and Guatemala.  Belize is the only English speaking Latin American country and is fairly developed in relation to its’ neighbors, but in many places has a very backwater feel to it. Most of the main attractions are out at sea in the form of hundreds of cayes, many with beautiful beaches and the 184-mile long barrier reef, complete with whale sharks, sting rays, multi-colored fish and clear blue water. On the mainland you will find many opportunities for wildlife viewing or visit Mayan temples.  Adventure sports such as zip lining are available as well.

COSTA RICA

Did you know that 25% of Costa Rica is national parks? Some highlights are Arenal Volcano (especially if in an animated active state), the beautiful cool highland areas around La Fortuna and Monteverde.  Montezuma and the Nicoya peninsula, Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean coast and the trek to Chirripo Grande (Cerro Chirripó).

EL SALVADOR

It might be recent earthquakes of El Salvador or perhaps the memory of civil war that keeps so many away from exploring such a well-travelled region, but it is more likely the attractions of neighboring countries.

PANAMA

The toughest thing to decide while in Panama is what to do first.  White-water rafting & kayaking the Chiriquí and Chiriquí Viejo Rivers, zipping through the treetops on a Canopy Adventure, walking to Pirre Mountain, surfing Bocas del Toro, sunbathing in Comarca Kuna Yala, looking for more than 500 species of birds along Pipeline Road in Soberanía National Park, diving around Isla Coiba or take a canoe ride up the Chagres River and spend the night in an Emberá Indian Village…just to name a few.

It’s not just the beaches of Central America that are truly unbeatable.

NICARAGUA

This is a country where history is alive and always present.  You can find well preserved colonial towns and remnants of the 1970’s revolution, teeming jungles, white-sand beaches, and charming Caribbean hideaways.  While Nicaragua may still a diamond in the rough, but it offers many of the same splendors that draw travelers to its neighbor to the south.

Guatemala PhotosThis photo of Guatemala is courtesy of TripAdvisor

GUATEMALA

Guatemala is a popular destination with major ruins like Tikal, beautiful colonial cities such as Antigua, two coast lines that are distinctly different, scenic volcanoes, dramatic mountains and some crazy festivals!

Honduras Photos

HONDURAS

Honduras has two main focuses with most travellers exploring little else. The first of which is Copán, one of the largest Mayan sites in the region. Copán is an easy side trip from Guatemala and sits just over the border. The second focus is the Bay Islands which are touted as budget Caribbean and rightly so with beaches, tropical islands, widely spoken English and cheap diving.  Most head straight for the blue waters of the Caribbean.
